Vijay V. Varanasi

Vijay V. Varanasi, 74 of Cambridge, Ohio passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on November 11, 2022 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus after suffering a stroke. He was born in 1948, in Hyderabad, India to Venkataramana and Alivelu (nee Mangamma) Varanasi.

Vijay grew up in Hyderabad, India and came to the U.S. in 1972 to study Engineering at Ohio University in Athens.  There, he met his wife of nearly fifty years, Joetta (nee Sgalla), with whom he raised two children. In 1984 a job brought the family to Hudson, NH.  They returned to Ohio in 2004, where Vijay eventually retired. 

Vijay was a caring soul who could make friends with just about anyone, regardless of background or faith. His own faith in God, his love for his granddaughters and his kind and loving spirit is what he will be most remembered for.

He is preceded in death by his father, and survived by his wife, Joetta of Cambridge, Ohio; a son, Vijay Jr.; a daughter, Jina; Son-in-law, Dan and granddaughters, Indira and Jennifer of Columbus; his mother, and two brothers, Surya and Krishna of India. 

As per Hindu tradition, ceremonies will be held from 11/22-11/24 in Hyderabad and his ashes will be scattered in the Godavari River. A local memorial service will be held at a later date. Per his wishes some of his ashes will be scattered throughout Ohio, and remaining ashes will be buried in Upland Heights Cemetery in Yorkville, Ohio at a family plot.
