Mildred Uphold Obituary

Mildred F. “Millie” Uphold, 96, of Zanesville, died at 3:37 A.M. on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at The Oaks at Northpointe, Zanesville. She was born November 6, 1924, in Zanesville, a daughter of the late Elmer F. and Vada H. (Ross) McFarland. She graduated from Lash High School in 1943. She was a stay at home mother for twenty years and worked at Nicols Restaurant for several years, Dr. Fenstermaker’s office, and then Essex Wire. Millie got her driver’s license when she was forty years old and turned into a teenager driving her mother and sister everywhere. She traveled everywhere across the United States and loved her yearly vacation at Hilton Head with all of her family. She loved to sing and play the keyboard. If she could sing the song, she could play the song. Everyone who knew her loved her great personality.

She is survived by a daughter, Susan Jane (Jeff) Longaberger of Dresden; a son, James D. (Janet) Uphold of Zanesville; nine grandchildren, Angie Butler, Mike Uphold, Tim Uphold, Chad Uphold, Jared Uphold, Amanda Uphold, Monia Stomps, Mindy Anton, and Katie Winland; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchildren.

She met her last love, Ed Young, at the bowling alley. They traveled together and Ed became Grandpa Ed to all of Millie’s great-grandchildren, Joey, John, Jake, Nick, Lauren, and Carter.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Donald Uphold, who died in 1979; a son, Fred J. Uphold who died in 1970; a brother, Jim McFarland; sisters, Lillian McDonald, Jamie Pollard, Norma Couston; a nephew, Alan McDonald; and her special friend Franklin Bohn who lived with her for thirty years.

Thank you to the Oaks at Northpointe and Hospice of Southeast Ohio for taking such good care of her.
