Jon L. Murphy

Jon L. Murphy, 78, of Zanesville, passed on August 2, 2021 to eternal rest at Genesis Hospital, Zanesville. He was born May 24, 1943 in Zanesville, a son of the late Roy and Geraldine Bucher Murphy. Jon was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and was a U.S. Navy veteran serving on board the USS Northampton CC-1, at the Bay of Pigs and the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a Past Master in 1979 of Lafayette Lodge # 79 F&AM, a 32 degree mason and a member of Scottish Rite Valley of Cambridge. Jon retired in 2007 from Owens Corning Fiberglass after 41 years of service. Jon was an avid Ohio State Buckeye of all sports, enjoyed golfing and he loved muscle cars. But the number one thing in Jon’s life was his family, spending time with his adorable wife of 52 years, his children and his amazing grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Sherry Davis Murphy, whom he married December 24, 1966; daughter, Molly (Mike) Zinsmeister; son, Jon “Mike” ( Stephanie) Murphy; four grandchildren who his legacy will live on through, Chloe and Gracie Zinsmeister, Kaytlynn and his name sake, Jon Thomas (JT) Murphy.

No calling hours will be observed. Private graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 9, 2021 at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Zanesville with Fr. Martin Ralko officiating. Full military honors will be accord to him by the United States Navy in conjunction with the VFW George Selsam Post 1058 and the American Legion Post 29. Lafayette Lodge # 79 F&AM will hold funeral rites at the grave at 10:45 A.M. Monday.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jon’s name to Catholic Social Services would be appreciated.
