Carolyn Sue (Gordon) Holmes

Carolyn Sue Holmes, 89, of Zanesville, passed away Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Clay Gardens Place, Zanesville. She was born September 24, 1931 in Zanesville, a daughter of the late Everett E. and Charlotte Schaffer Gordon. Sue graduated from New Concord High School in 1949 and the Good Samaritan School of Nursing in 1952. She retired after 43 years of nursing. In 1977 she developed the first multidisciplinary psychiatric unit in a general hospital setting in Ohio, subsequently served as a resource to other hospitals for development and management of psychiatric services. She was a member of the Rules Committee for Private Psychiatric Licensure for the Department of Mental Health.

Surviving are a daughter, Pam (Ron) Funk of Cambridge; two granddaughters, Shannon (Dave) Richey of Cincinnati and Kristen (Al) Dowling of Hudson; five great grandchildren, Kip, Audrey, Brennan, Finn and Nash; a brother, Everett K. Gordon of Zanesville and three nieces and two nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Yeiser and an infant brother Gerald Gordon.

Friends and family may call from 4-6 P.M. Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE where funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. WEDNESDAY, April 28, 2021 with Pastor Daniel Fullen officiating. She will be laid to rest at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery, Zanesville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Central Ohio Hospice.
