Terence “Smokey” O’Donnell, 87, of Hopewell, was called home at 5:46 A.M. on Monday, January 19, 2026, at his home. He was born September 16, 1938, in Newark, to the late Aloysius Michael and Anna Catherine (Musselman) O’Donnell. Terence was a 1957 graduate of Hopewell High School and then proudly served our country as a Veteran of the U.S. Army. Terry retired after 30 years of service as a machinist at Rockwell International/Meritor. He was a parishioner of St. Thomas Aquinas Church and a Member of the Knights of Columbus. Terry was a man of little words, although he was private and quiet he was a very loving husband and dedicated to his family. Terry found joy in being outdoors brush hogging and working on his tractor. He will be sadly missed by his family and those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Joyce (Tolley) O’Donnell, whom he married July 21, 1968; four children, Lawrence Rhoades, Jeffrey Boyd (Kelley) Rhoades, Jarard Paul (Judy) O’Donnell and James Todd (Melissa) O’Donnell; ten grandchildren, Ashley (Brandon) Smith, Arissa Conrad, Leanna (Mark) Hall, Tiffany Rhoades, Lauren (Brandon) Wysong, Kendall Rhoades, Megan (Joe) Mayle, Summer O’Donnell, J.T. O’ Donnell, and Landon Rhoades; eight, great grandchildren; his sister, Sister Michael Ann; and brother, Thomas (Pearl) O’Donnell.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by three brothers; and four sisters.
Friends and family may call from 12:00 – 2:00 P.M. and 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE where funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, with Mr. William Meaige officiating. He will be laid to rest at Iliff Cemetery in Crooksville with full Military Honors accorded to him by the United States Army in conjunction with the Roseville American Legion Post 71.
