Sophie “Jane” Bates, 94, of Dresden, died at 7:51 A.M., on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Altercare of Zanesville. She was born September 6, 1929, in Zanesville, a daughter of the late Harry and Blanche (Hamilton) Tandy. Jane worked for the Longaberger Company as a basket weaver for ten years, she was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. She enjoyed puzzle books, quilting and she loved to read. More than anything Jane treasured family and was a guiding light to all who loved her.
She is survived by her children, Scott (Robin) Bates, Michael Bates, Jon (Deb Earnest) Bates and Jan (John Kitts) Bates; nine grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Neil Bates whom she married November 2, 1948; daughter-in-law, Ellen Bates; two grandchildren, Jonna Bates and Nathan Bates, one great grandchild, Katie Jones; three brothers, Beecher Tandy, Bill Tandy, and Mike Tandy; two sisters, Olive Tandy and Lyda Ellen Tandy.
Friends and family may call from 11:00 A.M. until time of service at 1:00 P.M on Friday, April 5, 2024, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 116 N 7th St. Zanesville where funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Mark Combs officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.
All local arrangements have been entrusted to BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE.
