Ruth Ann (Holbein) Goyne

Ruth Ann Holbein Goyne, lost her courageous 5 year battle with a very rare cancer of the spinal cord, sacral chordoma on Monday, August 18, 2025.

Born on November 25, 1945, to parents, Elmer & Virginia (Shrider) Holbein.

Ruth graduated from Zanesville High School in 1963, and went to Ohio State University where she graduated in 1967, with a degree in Home Economics Education. In 1988, Ruth graduated from the College of Mt. Saint Joseph with a Masters of Excellence in Education.

Ruth taught home economics at Marlington High School from 1967, through 1970, in Alliance, Ohio. She moved to the Columbus, Ohio, area and taught Home Economics for 32 years in the Dublin Middle Schools, Sells Middle, Davis Middle, and Grizzell Middle School, retiring in 2007.

Ruth enjoyed the family farm in Zanesville, Ohio, she was raised on and moved back there in 2000, to help take care of her parents. She spent a lot of time enjoying the scenery from the front porch of the farmhouse.

Ruth loved her Florida winter home and her community. She was always looking for something new to see and do. She loved doing all kinds of arts and crafts, stained glass, wood crafts, stained glass stones, sewing, yard sales and thrift stores.

Ruth was always helping out friends and family, thinking of them instead of herself. She really enjoyed doing for others.

Ruth is survived by her sisters, Dorothy Mills, Helen Parker, Martha L. Holbein; brothers, Clarence (Sandy) Holbein, Bob Holbein; sister- in –law Martha C. Holbein; step sons, Springer(Lizette) Goyne and Brett(Stephanie) Goyne, both of Maryland. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Janelle(Rob)Guentter, Jeanne (Donovan) Campbell, Rob(Jennifer)Parker, Holly(Steve) Wahl, Suzy(Terry) Every, Lora Parker, Tom(Stefanie) Holbein, Brian(Diane) Holbein, Jennifer (Everett West) Holbein, Julie (Jason Bucci) Holbein, Matt (Jan) Holbein, Kyle(Sarah)Holbein, Katie(Rion) Ballmer, Matt(Stephanie) Kieffer, Angie (Matt) Minosky, and Donna (Ryan)Howlett. Ruth is survived by grand nieces and nephews , Aubrey Briggs, Lauren (Brandon) Wright, Shelby(Zack) Steinbrecher, Mallory(Nick)Howell, Joel(Hallie) Campbell, Ryan Campbell, Brad (Billi) Parker, Mandy(Nathan) Ekleberry, Ashley Parker, Stefan Holbein, Soul (Katie) Holbein, Kayla Holbein, Shenandoah Holbein, Braelyn Hewitt-Holbein, Morgan Hewitt-Holbein, Melanie Bryan, Lane Bryan, Caroline(Dillon) Spall, Olivia Goyne, Bridgett Goyne(Sean Crawford), Brady Goyne, Stella Goyne, Sydney Goyne, Delayney Harding, Cooper Clark, Stella Hosom, Parker(Nikki)Wahl,

Ruth is survived by special friends Anne Kennedy, Dena Plantz, and Peg Barga.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Virginia Holbein; brother, John Holbein; brother-in-law, Phil Mills, Bob Parker (father of Parker nieces & nephews); sister-in-law, Juanita Holbein; Martha’s fiancé, Rick Miracle; and grandnephew, Robby Parker.

Ruth requested no service and a caring cremation will be handled by the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE. Ruth also requested that the family have a big potluck dinner with family and friends to celebrate her life at a later date.
