Robert E. “Bob” Nichols, 98, of Hopewell, died at 8:33 P.M. on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Genesis Hospital. He was born July 9, 1926, in Zanesville, a son of the late Forrest and Mildred (Moody) Nichols Pollock, and his step-father, Harry Pollock. Bob was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, honorably serving his country during WWII. After graduating from Lash High School as an aircraft mechanic in 1944, he was stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Base before serving in New Zealand as a motor mechanic’ s mate aboard a 141-foot wooden sub chaser, specializing as a diesel mechanic.
Bob was a longtime project foreman at Ohio Ferro Alloy and a devoted member of Central Trinity Methodist Church. He was also a lifetime member of the VFW post 1058 in Zanesville. He and his wife that he adored founded a small business together called Sweetwood Creations. He also enjoyed camping, gardening, traveling with friends, and playing cards. He took pride in everything he did especially mowing his grass and always had a smile on his face and was always a little ornery, often sticking his tongue out at his family members.
Bob will be remembered for his humor, his dedication to his Church and to his country by all those that knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of almost seventy-six years, Norma (Robb) Nichols, whom he married August 7, 1949; two daughters, Sheryl (Dan) Hartman and Brenda Wallis; four grandchildren, Brad (Amy) Hartman, Tony (Ryanne) Hartman, Jeremy Wallis and Ashley Wallis; five great-grandchildren who lovingly referred to their great-grandpa as “Bob Bob”, Caleb Hartman, Abby Hartman, Owen Hartman, Isaac Hartman and Kyrah Wallis and numerous cousins.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother James Glen Nichols, and son-in-law, Dale Wallis.
