Robert Dayle Bailey, 82, was called home to be with our Lord on March 26, 2026. Born on February 4, 1944, to the late Andrew Dayle and Hilma Ruth Bailey, Robert lived a full and meaningful life defined by hard work, humor, and devotion to his family. He shared 51 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Karen Miller Bailey, building a life centered on love, laughter, and unwavering support. A graduate of both Zanesville High School and Ohio University, Robert retired from Shelly and Sands after many dedicated years, later serving as the Assistant Manager at both Sunrise and Maysville Do-it-Centers, and also proudly operated his own business, Bailey’s Home Harbor, where he combined his strong work ethic with his independent spirit. He was most at peace when sailing, feeling truly at home on the water. A passionate sports fan, Robert rarely missed cheering on his favorite teams—the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians/Guardians, and The Ohio State Buckeyes. His enthusiasm for sports extended beyond spectating; he spent many years coaching youth football and baseball, including American Legion teams, leaving a lasting impact on countless young athletes. He also enjoyed cruising around Ohio and was very well known for his “shortcuts.” Robert honorably served in the Air National Guard and was a proud member of the American Legion. Known for his quick wit and warm sense of humor, he could always be counted on to bring a smile or a laugh to those around him. Above all, Robert treasured his family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Karen; his daughter Kellye Donaldson (Scot); his sons Robert (Julia), Ryan (Jessica), and Reid (Kaylee); and his cherished grandchildren Kaleb and Kenzie Krebs, Aden Donaldson, Andrew and Asher Bailey, Reid and Luna Bailey, Noah Davis and with another grandson on the way. He was also blessed with a great-grandson, Knox Krebs. He is further survived by his sister Mary Creeks (Clyde); sister-in-law Judi Miller (Dave); brothers-in-law Jim Miller and Donald Miller (Barb); and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Robert also held a special place in his heart for his beloved pets, who brought him great comfort and companionship.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Candice Hoover; his in-laws, Donald Miller and Helen Dillon Miller; and his nephew, Daniel LaShelle. Robert will be remembered for his steady presence, his love of family, his dedication to his community, and the laughter he so freely shared. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched. A life well-lived, a man well-loved, and a legacy that will not be forgotten.
