Penny S. Burford

Penny Sue (Swick) Burford, 60, of Roseville, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 26, 2025. She was born on July 10, 1965, in Lancaster, Ohio, a daughter of the late Doris (Hall) Morris. Penny worked for many years at Carpenters Market in Somerset, Dollar General in Zanesville, and then oversaw the bookkeeping for she and her husband’s trucking company, “Pappy’s Towing”. Together they reestablished the family business, Penny continued to take care of the bookkeeping and the payroll until his declining health forced them to sell the business in 2020. Penny was an avid fan of dirt track racing, cheering on her husband, Mike Burford (Pappy) in the 07’ late model, and Chris Dyer in the 08’ four cylinder. She also loved going to bingo with her partners, Chastity Fox, Dottie Kinder, Wanda Pletcher, and Linda Stevens. Penny’s daughter and granddaughters were the absolute light of her life, her blunt wit and brutal “tell it like it is” honesty will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter Jessica Sue (Luke) Miley; her loving granddaughters, Abby, Madelyn, and Averie Miley, who were the absolute lights of her life; her dogs, Lucy, Lilly, and Lizzy; her granddogs; her sister, Chastity (Sid) Fox; nephews, Alex and Ty (Cheyenne) Fox; great niece, Laken Dountz; great nephew, Stihl Fox; and many cousins and dear friends.

In addition to her mother she was preceded in death by her step father, Charles (Ed) Morris, her husband, Michael Burford, whom she married on August 7, 2010, who passed away on June 14, 2021; grandparents, Happy and Mary Hall; aunt, Lois Downour; aunt and uncle, Mary Lou and Don Britton; and cousin Lori Deerfield.

No services to be held at this time, a Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.

A cremation will take place under the direction of the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE.
