Matthew L. Mallett, 55 passed away August 24, 2026. He is the son of Lawrence N. Mallett and Catherine Dinan Mallett. Matt was born and raised in Cincinnati and considered Zanesville a second home growing up.
Matt graduated from Cincinnati Reading High School where he played baseball and basketball and ran track. At the time of his death, Matt was employed at Bimbo Bakeries. Prior to moving to Zanesville, he worked in the food service and catering business in Cincinnati. Matt had a special talent in the kitchen and proudly continued the Dinan family tradition of baking homemade bread. He was always anxious to share his delicious culinary creations with family, friends and neighbors. Before succumbing to a sudden illness, Matt courageously battled and beat cancer. Matt preferred a quiet and simple life but was always willing to offer his time in aide to others.
In addition to his father and step-mother, Sherri Mallett, he is survived by several Aunts and Uncles: Sandra Mallett Honeywell (William, deceased); Anne Mallett Robson (Larry); Susan Mallett; Phyllis Summers Mallett; Luke Mallett (Missy); Mary Mallett Johnson (Wayne); Peggy Dinan, John Dinan (Kathleen, deceased); Brenda Dinan; and Christine Merry (Bill). He is also survived by numerous cousins, including David Alan Dinan, with whom he spent many fun filled summers as kids in Zanesville. He also leaves behind his two dogs and companions, Rudy and Charlie.
In addition to his mother, Matt was preceded in death by his Uncles, Mark Mallett, Sherry Dinan, Michael Dinan, and Peter Dinan and Uncle and Aunt, David and Estelle Dinan. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Everett and Sylvia Mallett and Thomas and Hilda Dinan and a very special great aunt, Catherine (Sis) Dinan.
A private family service will be held. Matt will be laid to rest alongside his mother and Aunt Sis at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being handled by BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville. Memorial contributions can be made in Matt’s name to the Muskingum County Animal Shelter, 1430 Newark Road, Zanesville, Ohio 43701 or any animal rescue service of one’s choice.
