Larry Lee Neff, affectionately known as “Pap,” passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on August 31, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. A lifelong resident of Muskingum County, he made his home in Zanesville, Ohio. He was born in Cannelville, Ohio, to Robert Theodore “Ted” and Ruth E. (Maxwell) Neff, Larry grew up with his brothers, Thomas “Tom” Neff and the late Melvin A. “Mose” Neff. He married the love of his life, Mary Jane (Worstall) Neff, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage until her passing in 2011. Together they built a beautiful family, which was always the center of their world.
Larry is survived by his children, Larry S. Neff (Deana), Douglas A. Neff (Stephanie) and Jacqueline A. Nezbeth (Jeff); his seven grandchildren, Lauren P. Eskew (Peter), Megan A. Witucky (Kyle), Raegan R. Breisinger (Garrett), Kristin L. Neff, Tyler J. Kaido (Jillian), Jordan D. Neff, and Wade R. Kaido (Marci); a step-grandson Zakary Nezbeth; and 27 great-grandchildren. His family was his greatest joy, and his love for them was evident in every part of his life.
For 30 years, Larry worked for Muskingum County in the office of the County Engineer, where his dedication and service left a lasting impact. He was a longtime member of Euclid Methodist Church, where he and Mary Jane were active in earlier years. Larry loved the outdoors, especially fishing and spending time in nature. As a founding member of the High Hill Hunt Club, he treasured the days shared there with friends. A devoted sports fan, he followed baseball and NASCAR and was also known for his love of classic country western music. Most recently, he resided at Clay Gardens, where he was deeply grateful for the care and friendships he found. Larry will be remembered for his loving, nurturing presence, and his unwavering devotion to his family. He had a natural way of connecting with others, touching many lives with his warmth and kindness. Along with his generous spirit, he carried a quick wit and good humor that made everyone feel at ease in his company.
Friends and family may call from 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 pm on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE where funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 5, 2025, Rev. Jessica Stonecypher officiating. Larry will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife, Mary Jane at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Genesis Hospice Morrison House, 713 Forest Avenue, Zanesville, Ohio 43701. Larry’s legacy of love, faith, and family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
