Kyle Ronald Johnson, 35, a proud veteran from Zanesville, died in an automobile accident on Saturday, December 30, 2023. He was born March 19, 1988, in Contra Costa, California, a son of David K. Johnson and the late Gaynel L. Johnson. Kyle grew up in Zanesville and graduated from John Glenn High School in 2006 where he was part of the wrestling team, FFA and marching band. He enlisted in the US Army at age 17, completing basic training the year before graduation. It was the only job he ever wanted to do from a young age. Over his 13 year military career, he proudly served in the 3rd Infantry Division, 2nd Infantry Division, and 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). While assigned to the 101st, Kyle served in three tours of duty in Afghanistan.
Throughout his service, Kyle was awarded the Army Commendation Medal (4th Award), Army Achievement Medal (2nd Award), Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Good Conduct Medal (3rd Award), National Defense Service Medal, Global War On Terrorism Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with two Campaign Stars (3rd Award), Non Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd Award) and the NATO Medal (2nd Award). He was also awarded the Combat Action Badge, Air Assault Badge, and the Driver and Mechanic Badge.
Kyle’s natural talent for technology and mathematics helped him in his military career as an Automated Field Artillery Tactical Data Specialist. He also enjoyed gaming and computers from a young age, a hobby he liked to share with his kids and online friends from around the world. Kyle was a dedicated father to his children who he loved more than anything. He was loyal and courageous with a strong sense of family, faith in God and duty to his country, never hesitating to help those in need. His loving and playful nature will be missed by all who loved him.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Gaynel Johnson and grandparents Ronald Hill, Marilyn Wenger, Kenny Johnson and Ruby Johnson.
Surviving are his partner Tiffanie Andrews and her two sons, Gage and Liam Andrews; a daughter, Madilynne Johnson; a son, Hayden Johnson; his father, David Johnson; two sisters Katie (Javier) Benitez and Kylie (Ted Porter) Johnson; two nephews David and George Benitez; his Tate siblings Chris, Kimbrala and Brandon, and many extended family members who all loved him very much.
