Joseph Edwin Martin, 92, passed away on Sunday March 15, 2026 in his home while in the loving presence of his family. He was born on July 30, 1933 in Zanesville, Ohio to Alva & Blanche (Gregg) Martin. Joseph was employed at Brockway Glass/Owens Illinois for 42 years; he also worked for many years on the family farm. He was a huge fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals. He was a member of the Rolling Plains Methodist Church, and proudly served in the U.S. Army’s 1st Armored Division. He enjoyed family get-togethers, and was well known for driving his tractor on the family farm. One of his happiest memories was travelling on the Honor Flight out of Columbus as a veteran.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 71 years, Frances (Smith) Martin, whom he married on June 26, 1954; his daughters, Judy Martin and Linda (Martin) Lyon, his grandchildren, Kyle (Tommy Shriver), Ashely (Brian) Crawford, and his great-grandchild, Jonathan Shriver, he also leaves his brothers, Ralph Martin, James (Velma) Martin, Raymond (Karen) Martin, and his sister, Mary (Gordon) Fischer, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Robert (Bonnie) Martin, sister, Norma (Larry) Griffin, brother, Olan Martin, his half-sister, Dorothy (Herb) Miller, and his half-brothers, Robert and Richard (Vera) Martin.
Friends and family are welcome to attend Calling Hours for Joseph on Friday March 20, 2026 at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE from 5-8PM. Services will take place on Saturday March 21, 2026 at 11AM, with a Calling Hour preceding at 10AM. Following services Joseph will then be laid to rest at Rose Hill Cemetery.
