John R. Bechstein

John R. Bechstein, 80, of Zanesville, died at 9:54 pm on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at his home, surrounded by those who loved him. He was born October 25, 1944, in South Amherst, Ohio, a son of the late John H. and Dessie (Tremain) Bechstein. John proudly served our country in the United States Army, spending much of his time in Darmstadt, Germany. After his military service, he had worked at Standard Oil and later retired from Seminole Tubular. He was a man of many interests, including woodworking, riding his motor scooter, metal detecting, and had an impressive gun collection.

John is survived by his wife, Jo Ann (Brugh) Bechstein, who he married June 20, 1981; a daughter Abby Bechstein; two grandchildren, Eli and Emily Wade; a brother Robert B. Sayler; two sisters, Linda Black and Mary Ann Stover; a special sister-in-law Melody (Scott) Thomas; and many friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Karen Ritchey; and two infant sons.

Private services will be held. Arrangements have been entrusted to the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE. Full military honors will be accorded to him by the United States Army in conjunction  with the VFW George Selsam  Post 1058.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Muskingum Behavioral Health WAR (We Are Recovery) at 1127 W Main Street, Zanesville, Ohio 43701.
