Jane Louise Fitzer, 92, of Zanesville, died peacefully at her residence on August 1, 2026. She was born in Zanesville, Ohio, on October 16, 1933, the youngest child born to the late Lucinda Blanche (Buker) Scott and Herbert Stanley Scott. Her siblings, Ernest, Lillian, and Russell; her beloved husband, Irvin Fitzer; and her daughter, Patricia, preceded her in death.
Jane was a 1951 graduate of Jefferson High School and spent most of her lifetime as a devoted stay-at-home mother to her children, Patricia (Archie), Herbert, and Greg (Anita). There was never a better, more involved, supportive mother. Jane attended every Tri-Valley High School basketball game from 1967 until 1981, driving thousands of miles to attend away games. Prior to that, she faithfully attended Jefferson Jayhawk basketball games from 1962 until school consolidation.
Jane loved babysitting and lovingly cared for other people's children as if they were her own. She cherished her grandchildren, Brian, Brad, and Allan, and kept their pictures close to her favorite chair. She and her late husband, Irvin, also enjoyed attending cross country and track meets to watch their son Herb's athletes compete. They knew many of the athletes by name and enthusiastically cheered each of them on throughout the years.
Jane will be remembered for the unwavering love she gave to her family, her quiet dedication, and the countless miles she traveled simply to support those she loved.
Calling hours will be held at BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville, on Friday, August 7, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon, with funeral services beginning at 12:00 p.m. Pastor Tim Patton will officiate. Burial will follow at Williams Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tri-Valley High School Athletic Department in Jane's memory.
