James Adkins, 79, of New York, died at 6:56 P.M. on Sunday, July 12, 2026 at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 18, 1946, in Clay County, West Virginia, a son of the late Tilda Kieffer. He had a passion for NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Dale Earnhardt Jr. He was always working on something in his garage and was a great mechanic, building a truck from start to finish with his grandson, Daniel.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rosalee (Ramsey) Adkins, whom he married on June 18, 1968; two children, Denice (David) Morse and Jeremy (Katie) Adkins; four grandchildren, Daniel (Autumn) Miller, Amanda (Kendel) Zanow, Alyssa Adkins and James Adkins; two brothers, Guy Stewart and Roger Stewart; two great grandchildren, Adalynn Zanow and Emelia Zanow; and two sisters, Debbie Procious and Betty Sue Nichols.
In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by his two sisters, Drema and Maryann; three brothers, Walter Adkins, Calvin “Pop” Stewart and Raymond Stewart; and two grandchildren, Matthew Miller and Paris Adkins.
A cremation will take place under the direction of BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE, AT OUR LOCALLY OWNED AND OPERATED CREMATORY. A burial will be held at Mt. Albion Cemetery at the convenience of his family.
