Donald D. Smith, 73 of Zanesville passed away June 29 at the Beckett House. He was born on August 27, 1952, in Alliance, Ohio to the late Donald S. Smith and Mary Louise Smith.
Don was a graduate of Alliance High School, graduated from Kent State with a BS in Science Education and Ohio University with a master’s in Science Education. He was employed by Franklin Local School District for 30 years as a science teacher. Donald also was employed by Pugh’s as a jewelry appraiser.
Donald enjoyed many hobbies including target shooting, photography, Karate, playing his guitars, Gemology, and gardening especially growing Lilies.
Donald leaves behind his former wife and friend Cathy Smith, special friends Kelly Rittenhouse and Kimberly Brown. Donald is also survived by a niece, Maria Holdcroft (Jason) Autry, great niece, Orianna Autry and several cousins who live in Alliance, Ohio.
Don was preceded in death by his parents. He was also preceded in death by his fur friends, Mona, Meg, and Frank.
Donations in memory of Donald can be made to The Animal Shelter Society, 1430 Newark Road, Zanesville, Ohio 43701.
Per Don’s wishes a caring cremation will take place and no services will be held.
A cremation will take place under the direction of BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE, AT OUR LOCALLY OWNED AND OPERATED CREMATORY.
