It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to everyone; as he has never met a stranger, Charles “Chuck/Rick” Lewis who passed away on Friday December 19, 2025 in his home after a 2 year battle with heart disease and liver cancer. He was born in Pomeroy, Ohio to Wesley T. & Helen Katherine (Fox) Lewis. Due to being 1 of 11 children he learned a strong work ethic early in life that he was able to instill into his children and grandchildren. He was a man of many talents and was successful in every endeavor. He worked many years in the Oil Field Industry as a sales representative, where he made many friends. He was a successful entrepreneur in the businesses he created with his “partner in crime”, his beloved wife of more than 63 years. They were together since the age of 13, and there wasn’t anything they couldn’t accomplish together. He owned Lewis Fabrications, Rick’s seeding and grading, Energy Components, Sew Right Machine Repair and after his retirement he started Chuck’s sewing machine repair and scissor Sharpening business. He was proud to know that his grandchildren will carry on his legacy in the Sewing Machine and Repair and scissor sharpening business. He was a proud Navy veteran, and was so humbled by the amount of patriotism, and frequently received words of gratitude from the public for his service. He always said, “I’d serve again if they would let me.”
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife Carole (Pickrell) Lewis, whom he wed on July 3, 1962; his daughters, Valerie Smith of Newark, Victoria Edwards of Kent, Ohio, two estranged sons, Rob Lewis of Tennessee and Dave Lewis of Newark, Ohio. He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren, Ashley (Ryan) Wilhelm of Blue Rock, Rick Smith of Newark, Ohio, Great-Grandchildren, Zoe (CJ) DeGarmo of Blue Rock and Michael Wilhelm of Blue Rock, OH. His sister June Woods of Zanesville, and his cherished fur babies, Callie & Cotton; a Special Son, Vince (Fred) Edwards of Streetsboro and his Special Daughter, Monica (Mike) Dingey of BFE, OH. He also leaves behind many special nieces and nephews, with special thanks, love and gratitude to Anita Callicoat of Scott Depot, WV who was a tremendous guiding force in his VA care and support. Thank you to Pastor John and Judie Sensabaugh and the church Family at the Word of Life Ministries.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, siblings John Lewis, William Lewis, Steve Lewis, Betty Johnson, Peggy Darst, Janice (Jack) Hasting, Gladys Spencer, and his infant sister, Ina Lewis.
Our family wishes to thank all of the Genesis doctors and their Homecare Team for the continued care and support during this difficult journey, as well as the James Cancer Center, Columbus and Zanesville VA Specialists for their support, the Eagles 302 for all the hours Chuck spent in his happy place conversing with Dwight and the staff. We cannot express enough just how much joy you all brought to him through conversations and laughter over the years. He felt very grateful for the special treatment when he wanted poached eggs and toast and the way they would accommodate his request because it was “FOR CHUCK.” His family is forever grateful.
