Barbara Jean Power

Barbara Jean Roberts Hina Power, 93, of Zanesville, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2026, at The Oaks at Bethesda. She was born in Zanesville on May 25, 1933, a daughter of the late Roy Lee Roberts and Nora Elizabeth (Kinney) Roberts.

Anyone who knew Barbara knew her laugh. It was infectious, the kind that filled a room and pulled everyone in with it. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, and nothing made her happier than being surrounded by her family. At every get-together, Barbara could be found with her video camera in hand, determined to capture as many of those moments as she could, although often what ended up on camera was a close-up of her guests’ feet. Today, those recordings are among her family’s most treasured family jokes and memories.

Barbara was generous to her core. She freely shared anything she had with those in need and she was especially known for her small, thoughtful gifts, that brought a smile to your face. She loved poems, the gentle sound of wind chimes, arts and crafts projects and singing her favorite song, “Delta Dawn” by Tanya Tucker. In fact she had just performed that song in a talent show at The Oaks two weeks ago.

Barbara worked for 36 years at Essex United Technology before retiring and was proud of her work prior to that helping others as a babysitter, clerk at Newberry’s and supporting the elderly at a nursing home. She was a longtime member of the First Christian Church on Dresden Road and a member of American Legion Post #29. As a young girl, she was active in Girl Scouts from age 9 until 17.

She leaves behind her daughter, Dixie (Dave) Duemmel of Zanesville; son, Brian (Kelly) Hina of Zanesville; six grandchildren, Jeannie Weaver; Tom (Ashley) Duemmel; Jake (Taisha) Hina; Sara (Scott) Haren; Lyndsay (Cory) Fortenberry and Seth (Erin) Hina; and nine great-grandchildren, Braylen and Jayden Weaver; Josie Duemmel; Parker, Jasper, and Vayda Hina; and Ryan, Greyson, and Emelia Hina. Also left to cherish her memory are Vernabell Roberts (sister-in-law); Risë Barlow (daughter-in-law) and Mike Weaver (grandson-in-law).

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton Power, who passed away May 19, 2011; her first husband, William Hina; her son, Bill Hina; her brother, Richard Roberts; her sisters, Linda Harris, Francis Havens, and Faye Bee; and her dear friend, Rose Lavy.

Barbara’s family will remember her vibrant spirit, deep caring heart and the love she gave so freely. That legacy lives on in her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and everyone whose life she touched, and every time a wind chime sounds, they will think of her.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of The Oaks at Bethesda and Genesis Hospice for the compassionate care and kindness they showed Barbara and her family.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, September 23, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville, Ohio 43701. Services will begin at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Paul Bugglin officiating. Barbara will be laid to rest beside her husband, Clayton, at Zanesville Memorial Park. Those who loved Barbara are welcome to make a donation in her honor in lieu of flowers.
