Russell Bateman Obituary

Russell E. Bateman Sr., 89, of Zanesville, died at 3:38 P.M. Saturday, December 30, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 6, 1928, in Zanesville, a son of the late George and Vivian Tolbert Bateman. He was the owner and operator of Bateman Heating and Air Conditioning Company for 36 years. Russ also worked from 1951-1959 at North American Aviation at Columbus, was a World War Two Army Air Force veteran, member of VFW George Selsam Post 1058, American Legion Post 29 and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles # 302. Russell was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church which he so much enjoyed. He also enjoyed golf and got a hole in one. He loved to piddle around, coach baseball, he greatly enjoyed his grandchildren and was an avid lover of birds, doves and deer. Surviving are his wife, Patricia Mick Bateman, whom he married February 24, 1950; a daughter, Debra (John) Dillon; a son, Russell E. Bateman Jr.; one sister Betty Shaw; six grandchildren, Brad (Barbie) Welker, Austin Welker, Aloni Welker, Oakland Scott, Charmain (Scott) Warren and Christopher Bateman; five great-grandchildren; special friends and caregivers, Jody, Becky, and Brenda and his furry companions Dolly, Milo and Max. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Bateman and a son-in-law, Greg Welker. Wednesday, January 3, 2018 with Eagles Service at 5:30 P.M. Wednesday at BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE where funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, January 4, 2018. He will laid to rest at Zanesville Memorial Park with full military honors accorded to him by the United States Army, VFW George Selsam Post 1058 and the American Legion Post 29.
