Helen McNeal Obituary

Helen L McNeal, 85, of Zanesville, died Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Genesis Hospice-Morrison House, Zanesville. She was born January 21, 1932 in Johnstown, PA, daughter of Jesse and Lena (Berkstresser) McNeal. She was raised in the home of her Grandmother and Aunt Rose McNeal, attended Scotland School for Veterans Children where she held many honors including winning a PA state championship for her homemade pie crust. Helen graduated in 1950 with her Beauty Culture license which she put to use in Huntingdon. Helen made her home in Huntingdon until 2005 when she relocated to Zanesville Ohio to be closer to her daughter. Helen had various jobs in Huntingdon. She worked at Fiberglas and JC Blair hospital as a dietician before going to work at Gerbo from which she retired. To all who knew her she loved to gamble so to support her habit she got a part time job at Days Inn as a housekeeper then finally taking a job at the Daily News as 'Gram the stuffer.' Along with lottery tickets and gambling Helen enjoyed playing cards and partying until her hair hurt with Jerry and Terry, Mark and Mitzi, Sally, Linda, Ellen and so many other friends. Helen is survived by a daughter Crystal (partner Sharon); grandsons, Scott (Sara) Lloyd, Nick (Rose) Lunsford; granddaughter Kristy (Bryan) Dunnick; and eight great-grandsons Xavier, Gage, Damion, Jamier, Aiden, Jax, Dezmond and soon to arrive Hunter; her favorite niece Lena (Rick); her favorite nephews Mike (Linda), Donny (Walt) and George (Linda); plus her many great nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a son Gregory Scott McNeal; a brother Harold 'Bud' and his wife Betty McNeal; a nephew Dennis McNeal; and her partner Dan Grove. In lieu of flowers Helen asks that you purchase a scratch off lottery ticket in her honor and to remember it takes 2 consecutive tickets to get a winner. Helen's family wish to thank the Genesis ED staff, Hospice, and Beckett House for the care she has received and also all the friends and extended family for all the prayers during this difficult time.
