Catherine Marie (Veno) Smith

Catherine Marie Smith, 84, of South Zanesville, has gone to be with our Lord, on Monday, September 9, 2019, at Genesis Hospice-Morrison House, Zanesville. She was born July 5, 1935, in Ironspot, the oldest daughter of the late Frank and Jeannette Veno. When her mother passed at a young age, Catherine (15) became a major caregiver for her brothers and sister, even leaving school to help them succeed. She married Vernon L. Smith, with whom she made a life building homes in Zanesville. They eventually settled in South Zanesville, and had five children.

Throughout her life Catherine enjoyed making friends and laughing. Along the years she worked for Rinks, Darrell's Donuts, and Wal-Mart, but one of her biggest accomplishments was working for ODOT. After retiring from the State, she helped raise grand-babies, and great-grandbabies. Known as "Nanny" she was mischievous, stubborn, loving and kind. She will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by a son, Randy (Jeanne) Smith; three daughters, Cindy Tracey, Denise (Dave) Dutro, and Mary (Brian) Gibson; eleven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Jane Veno; and two brothers, Danny (Trudy) and Joe (Karen) Veno.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon L. Smith, and a son, Vernon Ray Smith.

No calling hours or services will be held. A Cremation has taken place. BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE, the area's only crematory owned by Funeral Directors were entrusted with all arrangements.
