Edgar Wilson Long, 87, of Zanesville, died at 3:05 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2012.  He was born September 28, 1924, in Cumberland, Ohio, a son of the late Ivan Edgar and Edna Mae Wilson.  He grew up on a farm and hauled milk from dairy farms around Muskingum, Noble and Guernsey counties.  After moving to Zanesville, he started his own trucking company, Edgar W. Long Trucking Inc. where he hauled pottery among other products in 48 states.  After retiring, he bought a motor home and with his beloved wife Eloise, they joined camping clubs and traveled extensively.  He enjoyed people, never meeting a stranger.  He made countless friends across the United States.  They were involved in a worldwide bible study.  After settling down back at home from all the travels, he began working at Walmart North in Zanesville in the paint and hardware department, where he enjoyed all the people he encountered.  He was a member for 65 years of Amrou Grotto #52, Zavi Shrine and Doric Lodge #172 F&AM, Deavertown.

He leaves behind his wife, Eloise M. Manifold Long; three daughters, Barbara (Dave) LeVere, Tawny (Mike) Gregg and Patsy (John) Stockdale, who were his caregivers, all of Zanesville; a son, Larry (Linda) Long of Zanesville; four grandchildren, Mikkie (Dan) Kurts, Gina Gregg, Kristopher (Heather) Stockdale and Chad (Molly) Gregg; six great grandchildren; five step grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Andy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Hawkins; and an uncle, Forest Long.

Friends and family may call from 3:00 p.m. until time of Amrou Grotto services at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2012 at Prophets Park, 2560 Old River Rd., Zanesville.  No funeral service will be held.

The Long family has entrusted the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville to handle all arrangements.

My condolences to the Long family. I worked with Ed for 10
years in the hardware department at Wal-Mart. I was pleased
to call him my friend. And I always enjoyed listening to his
stories from his trucking days.
