During WWII, Jack served in the Civil Defense, maintaining ham radios for emergency communication purposes. He continued his love of ham radios after the war and could often be found on the airwaves using his call letters, WA8HFO.
Jack is survived by his wife of 46 years, Joanna Lee Buzza. Eight great-grandchildren survive him: Torrie & Tarren Norman, Riley Norman, Angela Lewis, Keitha and Shyla Garvin, Emory and Danny Shipley.
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by four brothers, George Smith, Russ Smith, Robert Smith and William Smith; two sisters Peg Smith Wyeth and Margaret Smith Trimper; two son-in-laws Neil Garvin and Richard (Rick) Neff; and his in-laws, William and Rosa Buzza.

I just learned about an hour ago that my uncle Jack passed away. I am very sorry. I am also very sorry that no one called sooner. I would have come to pay my respects. Jack did a lot to help me out with my car when I was a teenager. I kind of lost track after his divorce from my aunt Peg. My
cousin Judy put a message on my cell phone, which I rarely use. Once again
I wish I could have been there. I will send a contribution to Christ Table.
