George W. Roll, 78, of Zanesville, passed away at 5:10 a.m. Thursday, May 3, 2012 at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital after complications from bypass surgery. He was born July 12, 1933, in Zanesville, a son of the late Bernard O. and Laura Romick Roll. He graduated from the first class at Rosecrans High School in 1951 where he served as the schoolâ€™s first class president. He started working at Stanley Home Products and then became the full time secretary for Eagles Lodge #302 for many years and then became the Muskingum County Treasurer retiring in August 2001. He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and served on the Muskingum County Board of Elections. He golfed in the Tuesday Archerâ€™s Dubbers League and the Senior Thursday League at Vista and the Sunday Bernie Mitchellâ€™s Golfing Gang at Crystal Springs.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Carol J. Winland Roll, whom he married October 3, 1953, of the home; a daughter, Sandy (Doug) Leubner of Tolland, CT; a son, Randy Roll of Zanesville; a brother, Bernard Roll of St. Petersburg, FL; a grandson, Tyler Leubner and a granddaughter, Megan Leubner, both of Tolland, CT.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters; and three brothers.
Friends and family may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Sunday, May 6, 2012 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville, where Eagles Lodge #302 will hold services at 3:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 7, 2012 at the funeral home with Chaplain Tim Patton officiating. George will be laid to rest at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.
