William Mautz Obituary

William Eugene Gene Mautz, 95, of Zanesville, surrendered his body to the earth and his soul to the judgement of the Almighty at 7:08 P.M. Thursday, September 21, 2017 at the Oaks at Northpointe, Zanesville. Gene was born to the late Carl Henry and Bertha (Imes) Mautz on April 6, 1922 in Zanesville. He was a lifelong member of Immanuel Church of Zanesville. He worked as a mould maker from Zanesville Mould Shop for thirty seven years. Gene was very proud of his service to his country by serving in the U. S. Army during World War II and was a member of an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. He was also active in the ZHS Athletic Boosters selling programs, running chains at football games and cooking their famous barbeque chicken at the Muskingum County Fair. Gene and his late wife, Jessie Irene (West) Mautz were very active with the All Ohio State Fair Youth Choir. He has said that whenever he would hear The Battle Hymn of the Republic he would turn it off unless it was the Ohio State Youth Choir singing it. Surviving are his children, Judith (Mick) Conner, Ronald Mautz both of Zanesville, Janice Mautz (Steve Neff) of Kettering and Richard (Jane) Mautz of Fresno; grandsons, Christopher (Melanie) Phipps of Nashport, Jesse (Sandra) Mercer of Portland, Oregon and Christopher (Allison) Penny of New Jersey; Great grandchildren, Adam, Megan, and Jessica Phipps, Gahn and Jin Cai Mercer, Hannah Penny, Noah Polland and Jason and Evelyn Penny; brothers, Dale and Roger Mautz; sister Marjorie (Ray) Dixon; many nieces, nephews and cousins, Jessies brothers, sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, and wife of sixty-five years, Jessie Mautz; two brothers, Myron and Glen Mautz; grandson, David Penny; and nephew, Gerald Mautz. Friends and family may all from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Monday, September 25, 2017 at BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERALL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE, and one hour prior to the service which will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday September 26, 2017 with Pastor Mitch Reed officiating. He will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife Jessie, with full military honors being presented by The United States Army in conjunction with the VFW George Selsam Post 1058 and the American Legion Post 29 at Zanesville Memorial Park, Zanesville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Immanuel Church of Zanesville, 105 South Seventh Street, Zanesville, Ohio 43701.
