Susan Gottlieb Obituary

Susan Kay Gottlieb, 67, died at 7:26 A.M. on Sunday, August 20, 2017, at her home. She was born August 19, 1950, in Zanesville, Ohio, the only child of Attorney Harold E. and Sylvia K. Gottlieb. After attending Chatham University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and graduating from The Ohio State University with a B.A. in the History of Art, Susan lived away from Zanesville for 35 years, working in public relations and fund-raising for several non-profit organizations, including the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach, Florida. Following her return to her hometown, she became involved with the local movement to improve downtown Zanesville through the arts and worked as Assistant Director of the internationally acclaimed Zanesville Prize for Contemporary Ceramics Competition and Conference in 2014, becoming the Director in 2015. Her belief in the arts as an effective tool for social change never wavered, and it was her deeply-held hope that this work continues and thrives here. Throughout her life, Susan enjoyed: English pleasure riding, jumping and dressage; playing the piano; ballroom dancing; PBS; classic literature of many cultures; backgammon and bridge; creative writing; exploring art museums and galleries; cooking and entertaining; collecting contemporary ceramics; needlework; listening to classical music; traveling, particularly to England and Israel; and attending theatre and concerts. But her greatest joys were always centered around her family, her friends, her home, and her pets. She was profoundly grateful to her dear friends and for the great love and wonderful opportunities she experienced every day. Susan was a member of All Around Club, Artists Colony of Zanesville, and Congregation Tifereth Israel in Columbus. Surviving Susan are: her closest friend, Mrs. Barbara (Paul) Richardson of West Palm Beach, Florida; her cousins, Dr. Jay and Linda Green of Plantation, Florida, Dr. Neil and Cindy Green of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Walter and Becky Gottlieb and Dan and Diane Gottlieb of Bethesda, Maryland. She also leaves behind her most loyal, wonderful pal, Remy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her companion of many years, Lt. Col (USAF Ret.) Alton Teasley. Calling hours will be Thursday, August 24, 2017 from 11:00 A.M. till time of service at 1:00 P.M. with Rabbi Michael Ungar officiating, at Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville, OH 43701.
