Robert Lee, Sr. Obituary

Robert E. Lee, 87, of Bradenton, Florida, and Zanesville, Ohio, died at 2:45 P.M. on Monday, November 28, 2016 at Clay Gardens Place, after suffering a long illness related to mesothelioma. He was born November 26, 1929 to the late Adam and Mabel Foster Lee of Zanesville. Mr. Lee was a military police officer in the U.S. Army and stationed in Bad Nauheim Germany. After his service, he returned to Zanesville and worked for Burnham Corporation, Line Material, and Hazel Atlas (Brockway Glass). He also worked for the Zanesville City Police Department and the Zanesville City Fire Department as well as a substitute diver and member of the emergency squad. Mr. Lee also worked part time at Bolin-Funeral Home. After retiring from the fire department, he moved to Florida and recently back to Zanesville. He was an avid athlete, participating in handball, racquetball, baseball and the Y.M.C.A. wrestling team. He was the local Golden Glove Champion in 1951. He also was a private airplane pilot and an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and boating. A 58-year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Mr. Lee served as president and past-worthy president. Mr. Lee was a certified instructor for the Zanesville Sea Eagles Diving Team that were sponsored by Eagles Aerie 302. He was a lifetime member of the Palmetto Florida VFW, as well as a member of the American Legion and the Moose in Zanesville and Bradenton. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth (Norman) Cicotte, of Palmetto, FL; two sons, Robert E. (Cathy) Lee, Jr. of Zanesville, and Clifford Lee of Willis, TX; a brother, Lawrence (Jeannie) Lee of Middleburg FL; a sister-in-law, Reva Lee of Zanesville; a beloved niece, Cora Lee (Corky); and (Ralph) Taggart of Hopewell; a special friend, Jeanne Jackson, of Sun City, FL., formerly of Parrish FL.; and fourteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Donald A. Lee; three brothers, George Lee, James Lee and John Lee; and two sisters, Mary E. Zinesmeister and Elda Faye Thomas. Friends and family may call from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 8:00 P.M. on Friday, December 2, 2016 at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE with Eagles service at 5:45 P.M. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 3, 2016, at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE with Pastor Steve Harrop officiating. Following the service full military honors will be observed with the United States Army, V.F.W. George Selsam Post 1058 and American Legion Post 29. Zanesville City Fire Department will sound the last alarm following the military service. He will be laid to rest at Greenwood Cemetery at a later date.
