On June 12, 2017, Eleanor Vernon went to be in the presence of her Lord and Savior. Though her body was weak and frail her spirit and mind were not and she was an encouragement to all who knew her. She was loved by many. Eleanor was born May 20, 1927, the first of seven children born to James and Mildred McNeish. She was preceded in death by three brothers; Leland, Myron, and Rodney and has three remaining siblings, Kay McNeish, Carol Helms, and Jeff (Faye) McNeish and much loved sister-in-law, Carole McNeish along with many nieces and nephews. In 1953 she married Don Culbertson and together they had two children, Brenda (Frank) Maneely of Zanesville and Don (Becky) Culbertson of Hamilton. Her husband Don died in 1956 and she later married Ralph Vernon in 1966. They were married for 42 years until Ralph passed away in 2008. Eleanor had three grandsons; Daniel (Desi) Culbertson, Geoffrey (Ruth) Culbertson, and Timothy (Julia McDannold, fianc) all of Hamilton. Five great-grandchildren who lovingly referred to her as GG; Jaxon and Cameron Culbertson, and Peyton, Colton, and Sadie Culbertson. She loved them dearly. She was a lifelong member of the Washington Township Baptist Church and was active teaching Sunday School for many years along with other duties. She especially enjoyed the Ladies Missionary Group working on quilts and other projects sent to missionaries around the world. She loved flowers and gardening, looking forward to working outdoors, gladly sharing with others who appreciated the beauty of God's creation. The family wants to thank the many people who regularly visited or sent cards and notes to her while she lived at the Helen Purcell Home in Zanesville. Your visits and thoughts brightened her days and encouraged her greatly. Many thanks as well to the loving and caring staff at Helen Purcell who demonstrated true love and compassion to her, gently caring for her every need. Friends and family may call from 4:00 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE where funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, June 15, 2017, with Pastor Chris Riggs officiating. She will be laid to rest at Lull Cemetery, Zanesville. In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to the Washington Township Baptist Church Building Fund, www.wtbaptist.org, as a lasting legacy of her first love.
