Donald Dunmead Obituary

Donald L. Dunmead, 83, of Zanesville, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2017 at Brookdale, Zanesville, after a long battle with vascular dementia. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and the many people that he touched throughout his life. Don was born in Zanesville on September 24, 1933 to Lloyd and Dollie (Huffman) Dunmead. He graduated from Zanesville (Lash) High School in 1951 and married the love of his life, Barbara (Kirby) Dunmead, on October 4, 1953. All of those around him knew that Don devoted his life to God, his family, and his church. He was a long time member of Market Street Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and served in a wide variety of leadership roles including three terms as Membership Chairperson. Don retired from Rockwell International in 1994 after a 36 year career as a tool and die maker. Some of Dons favorite things to do were visiting and helping shut-ins, fishing, golfing, and building/fixing things, including Don and Barbaras first house. Besides being survived by his wife Barbara, Don is also survived by his three children, Judy Wilson of Cambridge, Diana (Jamey) Kuhn of Zanesville, and Steve (Renee) Dunmead of Atlanta; his nine grandchildren, Stephenie Wilson of Cambridge, Celeste (Scott) Moles of Phoenix, Joseph Wilson of Phoenix, Julia Wilson of Phoenix, Matthew Dunmead of Canton, Jordan Dunmead of Chicago, Molly (fiance Patrick Epler) Sheline of Zanesville, Christian Sheline of Zanesville and Christopher Sheline of Zanesville; and four great-grandchildren, Aaliyah, Jaden, Kayden and Kordell. Don was very proud of the accomplishments of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and enjoyed watching and hearing about their various activities. Don is also survived by his sister-in-law Betty Holdcroft; brother-in-law Don Cain; brother and sister-in-law Jim (Mary Lou) Kirby, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by in-laws Homer and Nellie Kirby, his sister and brother-in-law Virginia (William) Watson, his sister Betty Jean Dunmead, his sister-in-law Bonnie Cain, his brother-in-law Robert Holdcroft and a nephew Billy Watson. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Brookdale-Zanesville, Summit Behavioral Health, Logan, and Hospice of Central Ohio for their professional and compassionate care of Don and his family.
